Quantitative Sciences (Mathematics/Science)

At Armadale Senior High School, the disciplines of Mathematics and Sciences combine to form the Quantitative Sciences learning area.

Science

The Science curriculum in years 7 to 10 develops the student’s understanding of important scientific concepts across the key disciplines including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Sciences. Learning experiences aim to inspire curiosity, develop critical thinking and foster a deep understanding of the natural world. Students will have the opportunity to engage in a range of inquiry-based learning, experiments, fieldwork and problem-solving tasks that encourage creativity and innovation. We aim to equip students with essential scientific skills, preparing them for future studies and careers in STEM fields.

In years 11 and 12, Armadale Senior High School offers Human Biology (General) and Human Biology (ATAR) courses. The course work and assessment tasks are aligned with the requirements of the Secondary Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Further information regarding these courses can be found in the Upper School Course Selection Handbook.

Mathematics

In Years 7 and 8, we offer Strive Mathematics, a direct instruction program that focuses on building strong foundational skills in key areas of mathematics. This program helps students develop confidence and mastery in core concepts, setting them up for success in higher years.

Across Years 7 to 10, students engage in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The curriculum encourages problem-solving and critical thinking, equipping students to apply mathematical knowledge to real-life situations. Additionally, select students in Years 9 and 10 benefit from a modified mathematics program, focused on essential numeracy skills, preparing them for future studies.

In Upper School (Years 11 and 12), we provide ATAR Mathematics Applications and General Mathematics courses, tailored to suit students’ individual pathways, whether they are pursuing university or vocational training.
