Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) at Armadale Senior High School aims to provide students with an understanding of the world around them, promoting the HASS philosophy and motto that you ‘Know Your World’

HASS includes the studies of History, Geography, Economics and Business and Civics and Citizenship which are studied in each term. Through these topics, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills and to explore the social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of the world. They are also encouraged to reflect on their own beliefs and values and to consider the impact of these on their own lives and the world around them.

HASS focuses on developing the student’s ability to communicate effectively, through writing, infographics, video, song, in class discussions, or one-to-one interaction with their peers or their teacher. In addition, HASS places a strong emphasis on developing skills in research and collaboration. These skills are essential for success in today’s globalized world and are central to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

The Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum in Western Australia aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to be active and engaged members of their local and global communities. This is reflected in the real-world focus of HASS at Armadale Senior High School.
