Keys for Life

The Keys for Life program assists young people to better understand the importance of driving practice, planning ahead, courteous, safer driving and safer vehicles.  Students gain licensing credits after completing all Keys for Life program requirements and by sitting the legitimate Learner’s Permit Theory Test at school.

Outdoor Education

The Year 10 Outdoor education course focuses on practical context such as:

  • Roping,
  • Mountain Biking,
  • Kayaking,
  • Campcraft, and
  • Orienteering.

Furthermore the theory components within the course cover EVERY other curriculum area in the school and this is what makes Outdoor Education so valuable for any student’s future career aspirations and skill set.

Theory topics include;

  • Environmental Awareness;
  • Sustainability;
  • Weather components and understanding weather systems;
  • Navigation;
  • Leadership Development;
  • Group Dynamics; and
  • Expedition Planning

Students will participate in a flexible program that includes use of brand-new facilities and equipment with the most current safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards applied. All contexts (activities) contain some form of controlled risk in order to maximise opportunities for students to be their best.

Students are expected to be available for one major expedition (approximately four days) in the latter part of the year as well as a possible ‘overnight introduction to camping’ earlier in the year.

Please note the course is 50% practical and 50% theory.

Specialist Programs

Specialised Sport

The Specialist Sport is directed towards students who have a keen interest in sport and physical activity.

The program focuses on further developing individual skills and a “game related approach” aimed at providing competitive games and maximising participation. In Year 9 students will look at the coaching aspect of the sports and run their own warm up and drills. Year 10 students will visit local primary schools and assist them with organising and running their carnivals, alongside this, students will gain at least one coaching or umpiring accreditation through any of the following sports: Basketball, Soccer, AFL or Volleyball.

In Year 10 students will go offsite to use local facilities, including activities like lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, beach cricket, beach volleyball, hockey, fitness, rugby, golf and swimming.

AFL Development Program

The Armadale Senior High School Development Program aims to further develop student’s AFL techniques, skills and game understanding, with a specific focus on attacking and defending principles, underpinning coaching themes within each term. This is achieved through clear objectives, which are linked to the WAFL and specific game scenarios to aid in the development of student’s overall game understanding.

Lessons are designed to be fun, safe and challenging for all students.

Opportunities are provided for students to represent the school in competitive games and access to competitive AFL in the local area via links with South Fremantle Football Club.

Clear Path Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu has many benefits for students, Clear Path and Mr Vale’s vision is to holistically improve student’s physical fitness, build resilience, grow self-confidence and become a respectful citizen within our community.

Armadale Senior High School (ASHS) recognise that some student’s struggle with the day to day ‘norms’ of school and life, which is why we wanted to partner with Clear Path to offer our students something a little different. We hope that students, who are part of the program and complete the course gain confidence in managing anything life throws at them in a respectful manner.
